Many of us use Teamspeak to talk in-game while questing, in parties or raiding. Vent is another program that you probably hear alot about and are asked to join, so here is the info you need to download and enjoy Vent.
(I have both and use what ever is needed at the time ... hehee)
Ventrillo Download. Here you will find the links for the CLIENT versions of Vent. This is the type you want to choose from unless you are planning on renting a space of your very own. From the Client list choose the version that best fits the type of OS you are using, Windows, Mac or Linux. (most will be windows)
Once you download it you only need to set it up and it's ready to enjoy.
Open Vent on your computer and follow these steps:
Initally go to your SETUP button. Here you will set up how you talk through Vent, what Keys you will use to talk in game. Under Voice you should enable the top 3 options if they are not already...
-Enable Outgoing
-Push to Talk
-Direct Input
Then you want to choose your talkie -HOTKEY- button, (I use my center mouse scroll key but numbers on the number pad work well too, just use something that you do not use to play the game) Click the Hotkey box and then the key on your keyboard to assign. Now, leave everything else set at the defaults you see and click OK at the bottom.
Back to Main screen -
User Name - Server Info - Bindings
Leave Bindings alone.
User Name is YOU, and the name people will see when you log into Vent. From ther you can also set up your name to say who you are, find it and play with it but it's not needed.
Server .. the Important one.
Click the Arrow at the far Right side and set up a NEW server.
This is where you would enter the IP address and Port Number and Password (if any) that the people share with you. The name you assign to these locations should be that of the person or guild giving it to you. You can set up many connections with this button. Leave all the defaults as they appear and then click OK and you're done.
Once set you will then be back at the main screen and ready to connect, just be sure you have chosen the server you want to be on if you have more than one assigned. Enjoy
We have a member who has offered to let our guild use his personal Vent server when needed, so that info will be posted here later and In-game on our Guild Information screen, as well.
